Afterlife

Maya Azul

Following 2018 I had debris, aimless thoughts and memories sitting around like shoes at the door all waiting for the next time they leave the house eager too stroll. But the harsh reality is they are left over, leftovers from Christmas and the whole year prior. 2018 hung around looming like Myrtle or some shit from Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets bathroom scene , whining and annoying. I began to let it surface.  Shortly into the 2019 season I went on a small trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Prior to beginning the body of work not knowing what it was going to give me. Also with very little direction other than the backgrounds be black. There are a total of 11 paintings 7 of which are on wood planks and 4 on Canvas, all pieces are ready to hang with the exception of Afterlife.

I Begin the series with an appetizer which is , four works: Maya Azul, Kukulkan, Afterlife, Impromptu. Soup, because the paintings resemble that of a medley it all depends on whats in your bowl & your spoon at a given moment. The exploration began with a work named Maya Azul, it began before I went to Mexico and was a result of me waking up and painting every  morning not fully awake or aware till I was pulled away by hunger and or bowel movements, I completed Maya Azul prior to departure for my trip.

Impromptu

 Bam I return from my micro vacation, ready to let go. I began to paint so willingly and  fruitful my mind dancing with apparitions. Now, the main a delectable and quenching course; delicious but never enough. Next thing I know three days have elapsed and I have four paintings.

Kukulkan

Shortly after it dawns on me in my moment of creative outpour that I need more canvases to paint. I go scuttle about salvaging what I can. This, giving me well needed alone time a breath & rest. Alone time from my brushes living room & complete paintings, following this the work took a turn for a different structural & aesthetic aspect generating Nautilus, Jungle Etiket, As Above so Below & Crossroads. By this point I am 8 works in.

Up until now the paints and time flew and I began to wind down settle the storm, the remaining 3 pieces where conceived. For me the winding down and reduction of visual material brings me back to a balance, before being plagued with overthinking and left over thoughts i've not thrown away. The final 3 offering us a less is more attitude like desert after for our three course meal of art. With Checks, Paint the Blinds, & Ceremonial Regalia being completed a Sweet and simple  dish are the final 3 works.
